The owners of this 17-year-old southwest hills ranch house wanted a complete transformation, inside-out. With sweeping views of downtown and the major mountains to the east, the new design "roofed" over the old and expanded to the north with a new master bedroom suite and a large home theater. The result is a modern design which gives a stronger presence from the street while retaining privacy for the expansive rear decks high above Portland. The two-story glass wall with metal canopies were designed to provide maximum light and views. Extensive maple built-ins and cherry cabinets were designed around new granite fireplaces at both levels and at the kitchen. Custom skylights were also designed to bring additional light and warm the entry and master bedroom areas. The Hiatt Residence was recently featured in the January-February 2001 Oregon Home Magazine article "Let There Be Light."
