The Leftwich Residence is located off of Skyline Ridge in rural Multnomah County Oregon, just minutes outside of downtown Portland. It sits high above the Columbia and Willamette Rivers below and commands wonderful views of four mountains, Mount St. Helens, Rainer, Adams and Hood. The house was constructed to replace the previous home on the property that was destroyed in a fire while the owners were in the process of preparing deigns for a full house remodel. Following the fire, plans began on a new home. The new home incorporates a number of green and sustainable materials and practices including storm water storage and reuse. The home was built in a scenic corridor on a natural preserve, so it was critical to construct a new home without disturbing the site. The house was built in the same location as the previous home. One of the greatest features of the home is its setting. The nine-acre site is surrounded by acres of forests. The owners have noted, “We watched a herd of elk outside our bathroom the other day, and in the winter, bald eagles hang out in those trees.”
